On the morning of Wednesday, November 14 one of the Littleton Elementary School District buses was hit by a truck that ran a stop sign, and the impact resulted in the bus rolling over on its side. The pink bus was traveling west on Southern as typical for the start of this run. There were only six children from Tres Rios Service Academy on the bus along with the driver. The brave Pumas did an excellent job getting out of the bus just as they had practiced. Students also used their License-To-Learn ID cards to get on the bus this morning, which made it possible for us to determine who was on board and connect with their families.
School personnel were on site along with first responders and quickly contacted the parents of the students involved. No major injuries were reported, and all students were reunited with their families this morning. The bus driver was transported to a nearby hospital and is being evaluated. We are grateful to the members of the Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office, the Avondale Fire Department, and the Avondale Police Department who evaluated and released the students on site. It has also been reported that a nearby homeowner came to the aid of the students and even provided blankets and support.
Please read our bus incident press release for further details. The district will follow up on the progress of the students, the driver, and the repairs to the bus at a later date.
